This sub-project aims to increase the share of sustainable travel modes in the eight municipalities of Tampere city region: Tampere, Kangasala, Lempäälä, Nokia, Orivesi, Pirkkala, Vesilahti, and Ylöjärvi.
This action will focus on the improvement of the competitiveness of public transport over private cars and the attractiveness of sustainable trip chains. The aim is get people in the region to substitute current car trips with sustainable travel chains such as: walking+public transport, bike+public transport, car+public transport or public transport+public transport.
In the beginning of the sub project the regions transportation data was collected and analyzed and good pilot subjects were identified. First pilots that have or will be implemented are in Orivesi, Kangasala, Lempäälä Ideapark and Nokia. In 2021 Tampere Tesoma train halt pilot and Ylöjärvi and Pirkkala pilots were furthered. The focus in the pilots has especially been in developing the cycling connections.
Piloting the way
The action has started with collecting and analyzing information in order to define suitable target groups and locations. The activities will take place on 8-13 pilot areas.
Acitivities include the improving of connections and infrastructure like development of park and rides, new services like car-sharing, mobility management like targeted marketing campaign, and improvement of the cost-effectiveness like demand-responsive transport.
The aim is to define and test different kinds of activities to regocnize the most efficient ones to meet the climate targets, and to scale the efficient activities in the region.
The action is coordinated by City of Tampere and all municipalities in the city region are co-financers.
